Education is paramount to see and understand the real nature of our world. Colectivo Piloto encourages all individual to learn and experiment.

For more than 20 years, Colectivo Piloto has built programs that give young people a voice, career paths, and a sense of belonging.

Teens Media Network (TMN) is a media and education hub dedicated to advancing young people’s creative careers in culture and entertainment through global collaboration.

TMN engages youth in multimedia storytelling, focusing on contemporary culture, including music, film, fashion, and trends. Through partnerships with mentors and peers worldwide, TMN empowers the next generation of storytellers by providing hands-on learning experiences in photography, videography, writing, publishing, and content creation. Youth contributors produce and distribute original content for the network, amplifying their voices and shaping the narratives of today’s cultural and entertainment landscapes.

Founded by cultural promoter and entrepreneur Pablo Herrera, TMN is an initiative of Colectivo Piloto (CP), a nonprofit organization established in Barcelona, Spain, in 2004. CP is committed to fostering youth development and community engagement through inclusive multimedia storytelling, helping young creators gain industry experience and connect with audiences across borders.

Documentary Filmmaking

The Manhattan International High School. NYC, U.S.

This short documentary tells the story of more than 50 students in the process of learning the craft of documentary film-making during the COVID 19 era. From principles of photography and composition to film narrative analysis and criticism, students have shown incredible levels of engagement and success despite the challenges of online learning and have had the opportunity to apply the skills by using their own experiences as sources of inspiration for more than 10 assignments.

MoMI Teen Council

Museum of the Moving Image. NYC, U.S.

As a part of the Museum of the Moving Image Teens Program 2019, Colectivo Piloto taught the craft of filmmaking to more than 15 teens for the annual PR video production. 

The Teen Council at the Museum of the Moving Image has the mission to carve and shape an active space for youth interested in curating, public programming, video production and the overall day to day operations of an arts and cultural organization.

CIVICKIDS

Children Museum of the Arts. NYC, U.S.

CIVICKIDS was a year-long educational program implementing and disseminating curriculum designed to initiate conversations surrounding civic engagement with children and families. 

The program was executed over a year in partnership with more than 30 museums and civic organizations around the world. 

During the process of introducing children to the transformative power of the arts, kids, families and organizations near and far, learned about the importance of encouraging civic engagement through art making.

It’s Our Story to Tell

Arts Connection, Department of Cultural Affairs. NYC, U.S.

Funded by New York City’s Cultural Affairs, “It’s Our Story to Tell” was an educational film documentary project which took place at the Dr. Horan School in Harlem, New York City, involving preK-12 students with significant cognitive, emotional and sensory disabilities. The initiative implemented ethical and inclusive film-making practices to improve students' language, contribute to their social/emotional development and spark their imagination.

The program took place in 3 classes engaging more than 25 students during the 2018-19 school year. Over 80 program hours, each class explored the use of the filmmaking tools to create a documentary which conveys the experience directly through the unique perspectives and artistic expression of its makers.

Convention on the Rights of the Child

Museum of the Moving Image. NYC, U.S.

In this course, students are introduced to principles of animation as well the software tools and equipment they use to make their stop-motion animation projects.

During the program, students are aimed to create short films inspired by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The UNCRC, is the basis of all of Unicef’s work. It is the most complete statement of children’s rights ever produced and is the most widely-ratified international human rights treaty in history.  

Students learn how to use technology to better express their thoughts about core values that affect them daily. The UNCRC provides a strong motivation for students to create their stories, notably increasing their awareness about their Rights, improving their vocabulary and encouraging their critical thinking skills. 

The short stories created with the students have been awarded at the "NYC Public School Film Festival" and at the "NYC Community Schools Video Contest" for ‘​the innovative use of digital resources to raise kids awareness on Human Rights.’

Documentary Lab. After School

Reel Works, West Preparatory Academy. NYC, U.S.

The after school program at West Preparatory Academy in Harlem, NYC, gathered more than 150 middle schoolers to learn, discuss and develop ideas to create short documentaries about social values including gender equality, poverty and the environment.

The Documentary Lab was shaped to empower kids' voices, contribute to their social-emotional development and inspire their advocacy for social change.

Three of the short documentaries created by the kids during the 2018-19 school year, have been awarded in the SONYC Film Festival, one of the largest events hosted by the Comprehensive After School System of New York, and have been used to foster the dialogue between the Harlem community and the youth of the neighborhood.

During the After School program at West Preparatory Academy, students have interviewed each other about the meaning of Human Rights. As a result students developed short documentaries around the Rights of the Child ending with a field trip to the United Nations Headquarters in NYC.

Future Filmmakers

Museum of the Moving Image. NYC, U.S.

During this course, students learned the craft of documentary filmmaking by discussing and representing the concepts of origin, cultural identity and diversity. 

The Future Filmmakers curriculum has included a variety of sensorial activities to provide different levels of engagement and options for perception and language for students with disabilities.


kdm;) TV

Barcelona City Council. Barcelona, Spain

kdm;) TV was a popular ‘coming of age’ series promoted by the City of Barcelona in co-production with Colectivo Piloto. The educational program involved more than 250 teens and 30 professionals throughout 3 years of production and broadcasting.  

kdm;) TV had notably increased the image of the City of Barcelona as a case of study in educational politics and youth citizen participation
, having been mentioned by researchers in several books and papers for ‘the innovative use of media technologies for collaborative work, the use of digital media to foster youth independence and leadership and in assuming a critical social perspective’.

Acting For Our Rights

Save the Children. Barcelona, Spain

“Actuant pel nostres Drets” (Acting For Our Rights) was a transmedia storytelling program which gathered more than 100 students from Spain, Argentina and Paraguay to learn and promote the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

As a part of the exchange of experiences, students created a collaborative short film which reflects the different life experiences and opportunities of its participants. The short film called “Actuant pel nostres Drets” won the ‘Award for Promoting Human Rights’ in the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival, Badalona, Spain.

Child and Adolescent Care Team

Equip d’Atenció a la Infància i l’Adolescència. Barcelona, Spain.

During this course, participants created short documentaries which tell their concerns about the present and expectations about their future. 

The technique of using student voices over images turn negative feelings about the present into promising experiences for the future. This approach offers students an opportunity to explore their personalities without need to be judged for their ideas and experiences.
