Nick Frost and Steffen Haars Team Up Again with Get Away, a Promising Horror Comedy
Nick Frost and Steffen Haars bring us Get Away, a horror comedy that blends laughs and scares on a remote island, starring Aisling Bea and Sebastian Croft.
Nick Frost and Steffen Haars reunite to bring us their new horror comedy, Get Away, which tells the story of a family on vacation on a remote island who discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them, the island's inhabitants have no interest in helping.
The film is directed by Steffen Haars and written by Nick Frost, who also stars alongside Aisling Bea, Sebastian Croft, and Maisie Ayres.
Nick shared that Get Away is unique as a whole, a fun yet terrifying story, a genre he feels most comfortable writing in. When asked about references and inspirations for the film, Frost responded: “If I had to mention any reference, it might be The Shining, but there’s no clear [reference].” Therefore, the focus shifted to his writing process, which he described as meticulous and functional, shaped by his 10 years of experience.
“My writing process is very meticulous: I gather all my things, watch horror films, and then start writing. I’ve been doing the same process for 10 years. I try to write 10 pages a day, and most of them are bad, but the goal is to finish the first draft so I can make something better later,” said the director during the film’s presentation at the Sitges Festival last October.
Previously, Frost and Haars teamed up on Crazy House, a moment when they realized they made a great team. They shared the same sensibility, and there was a reciprocity in the way each of them worked, which inevitably led to an unmatched trust. During that shoot, they showed great synchronization, accepting each other's notes and feedback to ensure the film became the best version possible, always striving to make everyone involved feel part of the project. As a result, Nick learned an important lesson: ensuring you do what you do well and maintaining the comfort of those you work with is crucial for achieving good results and a positive experience.
During the press conference for the film's presentation at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, the atmosphere was formal yet friendly. Nick, who spoke the most, made jokes to lighten the mood and tried to include Steffen as much as possible, as he was only asked one question.
Get Away will be released in the United States on December 6, 2024, in Spain on December 9, 2024, and in England on January 10, 2025.
