This course aims to elevate the professional development of K-12 educators by enhancing their mastery of multimedia tools and techniques. By doing so, they can equip their students with critical thinking and analytical skills.

Framework

Although Generation Z is known for being avid multimedia content creators and consumers, they may struggle with the notion of actively observing rather than passively consuming multimedia content. In this context, it is crucial that multimedia resources are not seen solely as relevant to those pursuing a career in media, but rather as fundamental knowledge for all students in order to thrive in today's rapidly changing landscape.

Format

This 90-minute course is entirely online and available on demand. It consists of two main parts: an introductory theoretical section and a second segment that includes an assignment for teachers to apply the knowledge they've gained. The course methodology centers on practice, discussions, and collaborative work.

For those seeking a more in-depth exploration of storytelling, a 3-session course is also available. This option includes practical assignments and a deeper dive into storytelling development.

Meet the Mentor 

Pablo Herrera is a storyteller educator and co-founder of Colectivo Piloto, an organization advancing youth development through inclusive multimedia storytelling. Pablo's work in using digital media as a tool for youth development has been recognized by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Directors Guild of America for ‘the innovative use of media technologies for collaborative work, the use of digital media to foster youth independence and leadership and in assuming a critical social perspective.’
